!!! READ BEFORE POSTING A COMMENT PLEASE !!!

Guys I can already hear most of your arguments. Let me try to answer a few.

It is a tourist area!
It is also a place where we live.

You don’t have to buy it.
Nobody said you have to. We just want to warn people.

There are prices!
No, this store has the prices hidden very well.

There is nothing illegal.
Wrong. If you start to argue (In czech) they will give you a discount of almost 60%! And that is illegal.

I will try to answer most questions that will pop in your head. But I do not want to live in a city that is separated for locals and for tourists. Hope you can understand that.

  6. Why anyone would buy a Coke in Prague (when pivo is so incredibly cheap) is beyond me. Having said that, on a trip to Cairo in 2010, our wonderful, private guide took us to a cafe near the bazaar in the center of the city where we had a Coke for the (Egyptian pound) equivalent of $5. We don't have a receipt, but we saved the can (hard to come by Coke cans with Arabic writing in Chicago). Your videos are all wonderfully informative and entertaining. Having said that, while it's nice to warn people about price traps, in the end, you have to realize the truth of a popular American expression "you can't fix stupid". In other words, there will always be someone to pay 90 CzK for a Coke (and there will always be someone to vote for Donald Trump) 🙂

  8. Those small cans are $2 in supermarkets here in Australia but in a tourist spot they would mark it up to $3…….Or you can buy a box of 8 for $7 in a supermarket.

  9. I went into one of these stores to check out the beers they have and was shocked at all the prices of everything in it. Left the shop in 2 mins 😂

  10. A can of coke is about 10 krowns in sweden (1.3$) (33 cl)

  11. Pretty obvious that shop exists purely to rip off tourists who haven’t got to grips with the exchange rate. Especially folks like the Japanese and South Koreans.

  13. I went to that same exact store in Prague to get deodorant and shampoo, I don't remember it being so expensive. Unless they changed the prices, $4 is ridiculous for a coke!

  15. In Paris, at the Fontaine Saint-Michel, a popular spot for walking tours to start, there's a little cafe nearby. I saw their menu on display so to kill time I walked over. I'll skip posting a link to the picture I took by 5.4 euros for a 33cl size Coke. My hostel was charging 2.5 euros a car. No thanks. A 45 second walk from the hostel was a tiny corner store that had 1.5L bottle of Coke for 1.5 euros. More than I wanted, but better priced.

  17. Oh no, when we were in Prague during our vacation, my dad needed to buy a bottle of water. Unfortunately, we bought it at this tourist trap and paid 5 times the price of another store that was just 5 blocks down the street.

  20. The lighter price is absolutely ridiculous.
Because I am lazy (and cheap), I buy lighters in bulk at the SAPA market.
Last time I bought 60 lighters with a Prague sticker on them, I paid 250 Czk for all 60 lighters.

    They'll last me several years…

  23. When I went to Prague over Xmas, we just took items from our hotel's mini-bar fridge. Water (50cl) and Coke (33cl) were 25czk each (87p), which is standard for any UK supermarket and cheaper than we saw around the city.

Also, beer in Prague is good and cheap. I don't think I ever paid more than 50czk (£1.73) for a pint(-ish).

  24. That store you got the coke from across the road was my local for a year and they are great. They also have quite an extensive bakery selection and they are usually pretty fresh unlike the dried up koláčky at žabka

  25. Hi Janek, thanks for all of your eye opener videos, they are so helpful!! Can you check the restaurants around Prague Casale, when I went there I saw what I thought it was a serious tourist trap…. I almost got caught in paying a LOT of money U think… I was clever enough to ask several times for the prices, but the waiter "didn't know" them so I left… don't remember the exact place though…

  38. It's so pointless to complain about the price. The price was advertised well before the deal was done. So what's the problem? If a tourist doesn't search for the best price, then he doesn't mind to pay more because of his laziness.

  39. There will be much more expensive cans of coce in minibars on hotel rooms probably. I personally saw 0.250ml Monster energy drink for over 200 crowns in Las Vegas hotel minibar.
